You’re Not Ignorant Or Anything.

Let’s get this out in the open. I, Jessie Bolen, did not support Obama in 2008 and I am not sure about him in 2012. However, I am sick an tired of hearing that people only voted for him because he was black. He was a great speaker spoke of change and people were sick of George Bush. If you are a seventeen year old ignorant d-bag who’s only opinion on the Obama administration is that he is black and a Muslim, SHUT UP! That is completely irrelevant to how he handles the economy and foreign policy. Who cares!

What I am trying to say is that the level of maturity that people think that you are is up to you. If I’m discussing politics with you, please have a better argument than bigoted racial stereotypes. For instance, if we are talking about Sarah Palin I’m going to say that she is unqualified to become president. It isn’t because she was a beauty queen or a woman. It is because she is too far to the right, she couldn’t handle being Governor of Alaska after the campaign in 2008 and since she turned her life into a circus on TLC and Lifetime. Those are just a few of the problems that I have with her.

I understand that there is a “Blue Scare” in some parts of America. Just because someone is a Democrat doesn’t make them immoral hippies and the devil. Likewise, just because someone is a Republican doesn’t mean that they are racist right wing nut cases or country club snobs.

Become informed, do your research, and keep your bigoted thoughts to yourself. This is 2012, not 1812.

The full out war for the White House is catching speed and we all know what that means! What do Obama and Romney really believe in? If any of you guys are like me, I like to sift through the facts for myself.

While that can be time consuming and exhausting, I may have found the solution and it’s at campaign-comparison.org. Here is the link: http://2012.candidate-comparison.org/?compare=Romney&vs=Obama It covers everything from abortion to minimum wage and same sex marriages and adoptions. It even covers their family trees and religious beliefs. My personal favorite part is that the issues are compared, side by side.

While this isn’t the only thing that you need to pay attention to come November, it helps out a lot. Think of it as an unbiased bull shit filter.

Why Are All of These Women in the Kitchen?

Here at Not Your Coffee Bitch, we try our best to declare that just because we have female genitalia doesn’t mean that we are going to make you a pot of coffee. If I’m not mistaken, kitchens across the world do not have a force-field keeping males out of the kitchen. This is why I was a bit disturbed last Monday.

Before I explain what was so disturbing, you need to know two things. First, I live in Ohio, Canfield Ohio. Well, I have a Canfield mailing address, but I actually live in Greenford. It is a very small town with a very small school. The houses either resemble those as seen on Desperate Housewives, or are located on a farm. The posers at the local high school like to chew tobacco and lift their trucks. Girls with 4.0s want to go to college to find husbands and most of them dream of being stay at home mothers. It’s backwards, believe me, I know.

The second thing that you need to know is that the Greenford Ruritan sponsored me to go to Buckeye Girls State. For those of you that do no know, Buckeye Girls State is a mock government facilitated by girls. It is a week long program that takes place at The University of Mount Union.

Monday the Greenford Ruritan invited one of my friends that I attended Girls State with, two other scholarship winners, and myself to their monthly meeting. When we first arrived at the meeting I noticed a group of older gentlemen mingling at their seats. Simultaneously a group of women and one man slaved away in the kitchen serving everyone. I couldn’t help but to notice that it looked very backwards. They didn’t take part in the meeting at all. Once everyone was served and all of the dishes were clean they helped themselves to pie; pie that they ate outside.

I spoke to a couple of the women outside after the meeting. They were interested to know about my future plans. This is when my interest in politics came up. They seemed to be feeding out of the palm of my hands, until I mentioned that I was inspired by Gloria Steinem. They were completely turned off when I mentioned my icons name.

What makes a feminist so vulgar to some women? Sure, not everyone should burn their bras, but everyone needs freedom. In a land where Barack Obama is commonly called Osama Bin Laden (for the record I’m socially liberal and fiscally conservative) do the women have a choice? These women must have been a product of their environment and Greenford is still filled with traditional values. At one time it was okay to have a slave pick the cotton from your fields, I’m sure that we can all see the flaw with that and we have moved on. My question is, why are so many women refusing their liberation? No matter what these women may have heard, being a modern woman does not make you a slut, nor does it mean that they wil burn in hell.

I will never understand why some women continue to live like the help. All that we can do is make sure that younger generations are well aware that they are not slaves. They can be anything that you want to be, not just homemakers.

Teens wage war against magazine

The idea of the “perfect” body is ever changing through out history, society, and the world. From continent to continent, the idea of beauty greatly varies, according to the media. Although it may be a cliche, we at notyourcoffeebitch agree that beauty is solely in the eye of the beholder. Like the American Dream, beauty can be argued as unreal.

We take a strong stance on the belief that people should not be marketed as body parts, but as real men and women. We believe there should be a stronger emphasis on the brain and the heart to build self esteem, especially in young women, which will help them to make decisions concerning their health, nixing much of the power of the media to create an idea of  “perfection” for the masses.

The question thrown around recently relates to the harsh editing in the media. But, could the magazines who frequently zit and fat zap their models with photoshop-esque applications claim a right to art? Women are saying no.

With  the War on Teen Vogue,  two teenage girls have sparked controversy through change.org, a petition-for-the-cause site. We at notyourcoffeebitch urge our readers to look into thedailybeast article and join the movement. Every name counts. We endorse Carina Cruz and Emma Stydahar in their fight against the fictitious portrayals of young women in teen magazines and hope others will do the same.

VOTE 2012

Image

As everyone knows (or should know), 2012 is an important year. If you are a Democrat or a Republican, woman or man, black or white yada, yada, yada, your voice and your vote counts. Numerous issues that are important to Americans are up for debate. Health care, contraceptives and abortions being funded by Obama Care, relations with Syria, relations with China, and the economy are all under a magnifying glass this year. They also effect each and every American citizen.

Before we can jump into the issues, there is one thing that all of us at Not Your Coffee Bitch would like to announce. If you don’t vote, or are not planning on voting in the election this year we DO NOT want to hear your opinion. In fact all opinions matter except those who do not participate in one of the most important things in our society. VOTING. If you don’t vote then you are part of the problem, not the solution.

We aren’t talking about those of us under 18 that are not able to vote. We are talking about the people who are too lazy, or who don’t care enough to vote. As we all learned in Government, there is no reason not to vote.

As far as  the ladies that don’t vote, picture my finger wagging at you right now. Shame, shame, shame. If you don’t know why I’m wagging my finger at you please Google the nineteenth amendment, rent Iron Jawed Angles, and open a book about Suffragettes.

Let’s make sure that we vote and voice our opinions on what is important to us as caffeinated and politicaly informed Americans.

Women banned from Chicago bar

Women banned from Chicago bar

Even though a public resturant and bar may be at the heart of a gay community, is it ethical or fiscal to limit patrons to males?
